About Us
Brookings Area Habitat for Humanity Mission Statement
God's people building homes for families in need.
Since 1995 our local affiliate has built simple, decent affordable housing in partnership with 121 very low-income family members. Habitat is not a giveaway program. Homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor -- sweat equity -- into building their Habitat house and they pay a no-profit, no-interest mortgage.
Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) , based in Americus, Georgia, is an ecumenical Christian ministry dedicated to eliminating poverty housing. By the end of 2005, Habitat will have built its 200,000th house, and more than one million people will be living in Habitat homes they helped build and are buying through no-profit, zero-interest mortgages. Habitat is a worldwide, grass-roots movement with more than 2,100 affiliates in 100 countries, including all 50 states of the United States.
